VINCI won the PPP contract for New Federal road B247 in Germany
First federal road to be delivered and operated under a PPP program in Germany
A 30-year PPP representing a total investment of around 500 million euros
Work carried out by VINCI Construction
Operation and maintenance provided by VINCI Highways, a subsidiary of VINCI Concessions
DEGES, a public body responsible for the development of transport infrastructure in Germany, has awarded VINCI Concessions the public-private partnership contract for the new federal road B247. This road will connect the towns of Mühlhausen and Bad Langensalza, in the Land of Thuringia.
The 30-year PPP represents a total investment of around 500 million euros, of which around 350 million euros are for the construction phase, and covers the design, financing, construction, maintenance and operation of a new federal road 22 km long. The design and construction also includes an additional 6 km of crossing sections. VINCI Concessions’ revenues will be based on an availability criterion, with no traffic risk (payment for availability). The financial closure of the project is expected to take place in September 2021.
As a new direct connection, the project will improve mobility in north-eastern Thuringia and facilitate access to the region’s motorway network. It will also increase road safety and improve the quality of life of local residents by relieving traffic on the existing road which runs right through neighboring towns. About 15,000 vehicles per day are expected to use the new route, of which about 15% are heavy goods vehicles.
The construction work will last around 4 years and will be carried out by the VINCI Construction entities in Germany (Eurovia Deutschland and VINCI Construction Terrassement). The project will recycle and reuse up to 30% asphalt and 100% concrete from the existing section.
The first German federal road ever awarded to a private operator under a PPP, this project reinforces VINCI Concessions’ leadership as the leading German road concessionaire with 5 PPP, in synergy with the local subsidiaries of VINCI Construction, including Eurovia Deutschland , one of the main local players in the construction of transport infrastructure.
In Germany, VINCI employs more than 15,000 people with a network of local companies, some of which are over 100 years old.
