The International Festival, which is organized every three years by a different European country and attracts both local and foreign audiences, is organized by the Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia (JSKD) in cooperation with the European Choral Association . The festival was financially supported by the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Ljubljana.
The festival is part of Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The educational core of the festival will take place entirely on the web TV Europe Cantat, offering the possibility to listen to live concerts performed by international stars and prominent Slovenian groups at the Congress Square, Novi trg, in the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall and the Cankarjev dom.
World Choir Stars in Ljubljana
During the festival, Ljubljana will host outstanding musical ensembles from abroad, which will present different styles of music. On the program, the German group Singer Pur, which has contributed to the musical interpretation of various musical styles for 25 years, the stylistically Danish intriguing 3} a capella the pop group Postyr and the top male hairdresser Ringmaster quartet from Sweden.
Cycle dedicated to Slovenian choral singing
This year’s Europa Cantat festival pays particular tribute to the richness of Slovenian choral activities, which is one of the most popular mass forms of amateur culture in Slovenia, with national professional choirs achieving exceptional international success. A number of excellent choirs will present works by Slovenian composers in the Listen Slovenia concert cycle. At night we will hear from National Youth Choirs, the popular Perpetuum Jazzile, the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, the St. Stanislav Girls Choir, the Megaron Chamber Choir and the Chamber Choir of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet.
In the framework of the joint EuroChoir and National Youth Choirs projects, many young singers from all over Europe will meet in Ljubljana, who will live and practice the program jointly during the festival days and then present it at the final concerts.
Web TV Europa Cantat
During the event, Europa Cantat web TV will be operational, available on the festival website.
It will broadcast a rich educational musical program every day between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Those interested will be able to get acquainted with choral literature, virtually attend a full-day singing workshop, follow interviews with choral experts and listen to studio concerts, while various short videos showcase the natural beauties of Slovenia at the foreign audience.
Choral Photo exhibition on the promenade Jakopič promenade
The Choral Photo Promenade exhibition will be on display on the Jakopič promenade until August 1. In addition to the photographs of choral music exhibited in the open-air gallery, all other photographs submitted to the exhibition photo competition will be displayed on the festival site. The exhibition was financially supported by Ljubljana Tourism.
