Mother stabbed to death by jihadist knife pounced on her 11-year-old daughter to save her life as Würzburg rampage left 3 dead

A mother who used her body as a shield to protect her 11-year-old daughter was stabbed to death by the jihadist knife during an attack in Germany.

Christaine H. stood up for her child as 24-year-old Abdirahman J. tore up a Woolworth department store in Wurzberg.

The killer is now in a mental health unit after slaughtering three women shouting “Allahu Akbar” during Friday’s daytime rampage.

Brazilian national Christine, who worked as a teacher, desperately tried to protect her daughter as Abdirahman J. stabbed them both.

Her killer had entered the store and asked the staff where the knives were, before grabbing one.

Christaine tragically died and her daughter Akines was seriously injured.

Akines, 11, didn’t arrive in Germany until early this year after her mother was offered a job at a school in Würzburg.

Friend said Bild: “The little one knows her mother is dead. Her father is still home. Akines just wants her father to come here.”

I don’t want to die yet!

Steffi W. from the town of Spessart who had traveled to town to buy a bridesmaid dress for her best friend’s wedding was also killed in the attack.

The wedding, which was due to take place yesterday, has been postponed out of respect for Steffi and to allow his funeral to take place.

82-year-old pensioner Johanna H, 82, was killed while trying to save Akines – who was heard shouting “I don’t want to die yet”.

In spooky footage of the horrific attack, Abdirahman J. was seen barefoot and wielding a knife in the town square.

Six other people were injured including a 15-year-old girl and a 73-year-old woman, Ingrid L, who was stabbed 13 times.

Her son Thomas W told Bild am Sontag: “My mother was about to go to the tram stop when she felt stab wounds on her back and neck.

SPEED OF MURDER

“The assailant missed his main artery by two millimeters. Otherwise, my mother would be dead.”

The cops arrested him after shooting him in the leg.

Abdirahman J., who has a history of mental health problems, told police he was carrying out a “personal jihad”.

Investigators have since discovered Islamist literature in his bedroom and counterterrorism authorities are probing his links to extremist groups.

The assailant was cornered by people on the street, with passers-by grabbing chairs outside a restaurant before throwing them at him to stop the rampage.

A man hit him with a long stick before a crowd of 20 chased him down a side street.

Police said they launched a “major operation” and urged people to stay away from the city center.

“Operation in Würzburg. Parts around Barbarossaplatz are closed. Please avoid this area,” German law enforcement wrote in a tweet shortly after the stabbing began.

PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT

Bavarian Home Minister Joachim Herrmann said the attacker was a Somali national who had lived in Würzburg since 2015.

The 24-year-old was known to the police, according to Herrmann: “He is known to the police and was forcibly subjected to psychiatric treatment.

“In the case of the seriously injured, it is not certain that they will all survive.

The minister also confirmed that a little boy was among the injured.

The police are not looking for anyone else and say there is no more risk to the public.

It later emerged that he had been placed under compulsory psychiatric treatment just days before the attack.

People were seen leaving bouquets of flowers at the scene on Saturday.

Markus Söder, the head of the Bavarian government, called the incident “terrible and shocking”.

“We mourn with the victims and their families. We fear and hope with the injured,” he tweeted.

“It’s terrible what happened there. Respect to all those who have shown moral courage and to our great rescuers, on whom we can count in all situations,” added another minister.
