ISG Provider Lens ™ Report Says Companies Seek Help From Application Development Vendors To Adopt Agile Methodologies
FRANKFURT, Germany, October 21, 2021– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – The market for application development and maintenance services is growing rapidly in Germany, as companies turn to outsourcing providers to accelerate and save money, according to a new report released today by Information Services Group (ISG) (Nasdaq: III), one of the world’s leading technology research and consulting companies.
The 2021 ISG Provider Lens ™ Report on Next Generation Application Development and Maintenance Services for Germany Finds German Companies Seeking ADM Vendors to Help Digitize Their Products, Processes and Services; adapt agile development methodologies and improve software quality. The commercial impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have increased the need to develop new applications and bring them to market quickly.
“The pandemic has increased the need for IT cost optimization and new technologies and applications to help companies differentiate themselves from their competitors,” said Dr Daniel Gerster, Director, Digital Strategy and Solutions for ISG in Germany. “German companies are looking for new digital solutions that can be developed at short notice.
In addition to the pandemic, the Brexit situation in the UK has put new pressure on many German companies, according to the report. With the UK being one of the largest markets for German products and services, Brexit has increased the sense of urgency for German businesses, leading them to focus on faster decision-making and creating clear value propositions in a volatile market.
As German companies adopt agile development practices, they also see the limits of scaling agile methods in large companies, the report says. The number of tools and frameworks is almost endless, and when companies free up their agile teams to choose their tools, customers and vendors alike struggle to integrate agile development processes.
Additionally, DevOps continues to be a challenge for most companies, with less than half of all agile development teams using it effectively, the report says. Automation of repetitive tasks is necessary, and without automation development teams tend to skip process steps, including quality assurance.
Companies must address organizational change management, training, education and automation to implement agility at scale, the report says. At the same time, many organizations continue to struggle to balance the maintenance of legacy applications and new applications running in agile mode.
With the acceleration of application development and the adoption of the cloud, organizations are able to deploy applications faster. However, cybersecurity risks, privacy regulations, and growing customer demand for high-quality digital services are forcing organizations to improve the quality of software delivered to internal users and external customers, the report says.
Automation is becoming a competitive differentiator for ADM vendors. Leading vendors are integrating AI-powered automation throughout the development process and, in particular, in quality assurance to provide analytical dashboards and process improvement insights. State-of-the-art quality assurance integrates AI, machine learning, automation and tool integration, and is ideally integrated with AI-automated operations (AIOps).
