Euro 2020 today: France beats Germany, Ronaldo scores twice for Portugal

France win 1-0 against Germany

In the scoring game of the first round of the Euro 2020 group matches, an own goal against Mats Hummels made the difference between France and Germany.

The match was not without quality, but few good chances were created as both defenses held up. The French midfielder was particularly impressive as Germany struggled to win in the game.

Portugal is slow to beat Hungary

Hungary held their ground until the 84th minute against Portugal, until an unfortunate deflection from Willi Orban saw Raphael Guerreiro put Fernando Santos’ side in front.

Ronaldo then converted a penalty shortly after and clinched his second in added time, cleverly rounding Peter Gulacsi as he scored his 105th and 106th international goals. The Juventus forward is now the all-time top scorer at the European Championships with 11 goals.

Ronaldo’s Coca-Cola move costs company $ 4 billion

Ronaldo’s withdrawal of Coca-Cola bottles from a Euro 2020 press conference on Monday was followed by a $ 4 billion reduction in the value of the company as the market reacted on Tuesday.

Ronaldo arrived to speak ahead of Portugal’s game against Hungary with the soft drinks placed in front of his seat. The 36-year-old then removed them from sight and said people should “drink water” instead. The Coca-Cola share price then rose.

UEFA investigates Arnautovic’s comments

UEFA has appointed an ethics and disciplinary inspector to investigate the stormy reaction of Austrian Marko Arnautovic to his goal against North Macedonia on Sunday.

The North Macedonian Football Association said on Monday it submitted a request to UEFA to punish Arnautovic for a nationalist outburst after scoring during the match. The forward denied using racist language after the game, but apologized for his celebration.
