Emirates news agency – Sheikh Zayed Book Award invites participants to 16th edition

ABU DHABI, June 13, 2021 (WAM) – Writers and editors are invited to submit their nominations for next year’s Sheikh Zayed Book Award (SZBA). The submission period for the 16th edition of the SZBA will run from June to October 1, 2021.

The announcement follows the success of the 15th edition’s virtual awards ceremony, which received widespread praise and publicity after it aired on social media and TV networks on May 24.

The award is organized by the Arabic Language Center, which is part of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).

“We are now welcoming nominations for the next edition of this prestigious literary award, with the tributes to the success of the 15th edition still drawing the attention of literary circles,” said Dr Ali bin Tamim, General Secretary of SZBA and President of Abu Dhabi Arabic. Language center.

He added, “We owe this success not to chance or improvisation, but to our disciplined planning, analysis and forethought to present the Sheikh Zayed Book Award to the world in a way that matches its namesake, status and history. position as a center of creativity, culture, literature, translation and publishing.

The submission period for the 16th edition of the SZBA was announced at the recent meeting of its Scientific Committee, chaired by Dr bin Tamim. Also present were the members of the committee, Professor Dr. Khalil Al Sheikh from Jordan, Juergen Boos from Germany, the poet and researcher Sultan Al-Ameemi from the United Arab Emirates, the Jordanian-German translator Mustafa Al-Slaiman, Professor Floréal Sanagustin from France, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Abu al-Fadl Badran from Egypt, Jordanian-American scholar Dr. Khaled Al-Masri and Prof. Mohammad Al-Safrani from Saudi Arabia.

Categories for the 16th Edition include Literature, Translation, Contribution to the Development of Nations, Arab Culture in Other Languages, Children’s Literature, Literary and Art Criticism, Young Author, Publishing and Technology and the cultural personality of the year.

The SZBA welcomes self-nominations from the authors themselves, or publishers can submit their book nominations after obtaining the written consent of the authors.

Nominated original works must be written in Arabic, with the exception of the “Translation” category, where they must be translated into or from Arabic. The other exception is the category “Arabic Culture in Other Languages”, where entries must be published in English, German, French, Italian, Spanish or Russian.

The 15th edition of SZBA received a record number of submissions, totaling 2,349 from 57 countries, an increase of 23% over the previous year. This brings to 19,095 the total number of entries that have competed for the nine categories of the award since its inception.
